In addition to the technical part of this research we a two-fold educational and outreach component is also being conducted. The goal of these aspects are to promote teaching and learning by introducing students to nanomaterials, nanofluidics and nanophotonics as interdisciplinary areas. The first of these thrusts will be centered on creating laboratory units designed to be integrated into high school science courses. In the second we will organize a regular seminar series focusing on multidisciplinary aspects of nanoscale materials science and engineering.
In addition we also aim to fundamentally integrated the use of undergraduate researchers into this research program by continuing our involvement with NSF-REU programs.
